This page summarizes the administrative requirements and timeline for the promotion and tenure process.
The criteria for promotion and tenure vary by appointment rank and career track. Please visit the website of the Feinberg School of Medicine to view promotion and tenure criteria:
The promotion/tenure process is initiated by the Division, and then flows through the Department of Medicine, the Feinberg School of Medicine, and finally, the NU Office of the Provost.
The promotion and tenure process occurs on an annual cycle and takes about 1 and 1/2 years to complete, beginning from the time the Division Chief nominates a candidate for promotion/tenure to the time the approved promotion/tenure status takes effect. For example, approved candidates nominated for promotion by their Division Chiefs in the spring of 2013 will not be promoted until September of 2014. The timeline below offers an overview of the promotion and tenure process.
